Stepp Named To District VIII All-Academic Team

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University junior guard Blake Stepp has been named to the Verizon District VIII All-Academic men's basketball team.
The native of Eugene, Ore., has a 3.21 grade point average in business administration.
He's joined on the squad by senior forward Jason Blair, University of San Diego, 3.59, business administration; senior forward Trace Caton, University of Utah, 3.71, Spanish; junior guard Carl English, University of Hawai'i, 3.28, liberal studies, and senior forward Shawn Redhage, Arizona State University, 3.61, construction science.
Stepp is averaging 18.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg and 6.1 assists for the 19-6 Bulldogs. He ranks second in the West Coast Conference in scoring and leads the league in assists and 3-point field goals per game. He became the 25th member of Gonzaga's 1,000-point club and has 1,082 career points to rank 20th on the all-time list. He set a single-game school record with his 16 assists this season against Long Beach State University, and is currently third on the all-time GU assists list with 388 behind Matt Santangelo (668) and John Stockton (554).
Stepp becomes the second straight men's basketball player to earn District VIII All-Academic honors, Dan Dickau selected to the first team a year ago on his way to becoming a first-team Verizon Academic All-America selection. Stepp's name will appear on the national Academic All-America ballot.
