Paint The Kennel Red On Saturday
Feb. 21, 2003
SPOKANE, Wash. - Fans attending Saturday's sold out non-conference men's basketball game between Gonzaga University and the University of Tulsa are encouraged to wear red to "Paint The Kennel Red."
The two teams tip off at 9 p.m. PST time in a game to be televised on ESPN as part of Bracket Buster Saturday sponsored by ESPN. The Gonzaga-Tulsa matchup is one of nine games on Bracket Buster Saturday, but is the only game televised on ESPN. The other eight games will be televised on either ESPN2 or ESPN Regional Plus.
"We did a survey on our web site and a majority of those who voted favored red by a 2-to-1 margin," Gonzaga associate athletic director Mike Hogan said. "Through the efforts of George Gee Pontiac/GMC/Hummer, Tourney Sport USA, Gonzaga University Athletics and the Kennel Club there will be 1,000 free red shirts made available to Gonzaga students, and other red shirts will be on sale to the general public in the atrium on game night."
Saturday's game is the second ESPN telecast from The Kennel in as many years. ESPN televised the Gonzaga-Pepperdine University showdown last year. Saturday's game will also be the sixth appearance of the season for the Bulldogs on ESPN, most in school history.
