Marquise Carter WCC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -Gonzaga University junior guard Marquise Carter has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for leading the men's basketball team into sole possession of second place with a pair of victories.

Thursday against Santa Clara University he scored a season/career high 20 points, going 6-for-9 from the field, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. He had five assists, a block and just two turnovers in a season/career high 38 minutes of action.

He came back Saturday in the showdown for second with the University of San Francisco and scored 18 points on a 7-for-10 night from the floor, 3-for-5 from 3-point range, a season/career-high equaling five rebounds, three assists, three steals and just one turnover in 34 minutes. For the weekend he averaged 19.0 ppg, went 13-for-19 from the field for 68.4 percent, 5-for-8 from 3-point range for 62.5 percent and 7-for-8 from the free throw line for 87.5 percent. He grabbed six boards, dished out eight assists, had three steals, one block and just three turnovers in 72 minutes of action. His assist/turnover ratio for the week was 2.7.

Carter and the Bulldogs will take aim at first place in the WCC when they travel to league-leading Saint Mary's College Thursday. The 9-3 Bulldogs are one game behind the 10-2 Gaels as the Zags bid for an 11th straight regular-season WCC title. Gonzaga concludes the WCC season Saturday at the University of San Diego, and will conclude the regular-season Monday, Feb. 28 when Cal State Bakersfield visits for Senior Night.
