Raivio Named To NABC District 14 Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Gonzaga University senior guard Derek Raivio has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 14 team.
Raivio, named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year earlier this week, is the lone WCC representative on the squad. Other first-team picks were Aaron Brooks of the University of Oregon, Derrick Low and Kyle Weaver of Washington State University and Lawrence Hill of Stanford University.
Second-team picks were Jon Brockman of the University of Washington, Ryan Anderson and Ayinde Ubaka of the University of California, Spencer Hawes of Washington and Jaycee Carroll of Utah State University.
Raivio leads the WCC in scoring with 18.0 points-per-game, while shooting an astounding 95.5 percent from the free throw line to lead the nation.
The Vancouver, Wash., native has 1,402 career points to rank 14th. He moved past John Stockton (1,340), Cory Violette (1,342) and Bill Suter (1,354) with his 21 points against the University of Memphis. Raivio's 239 career 3-pointers, 571 3-point attempts and 334 steals all rank fourth on the Gonzaga career charts, while his 152 steals tie him for third with Blake Stepp. His 323 career free throws moved him past John Stockton and into ninth ahead of Matt Santangelo.
Raivio continues a streak that has seen at least one player from Gonzaga named to the team every year since 1998. In all 18 different Bulldogs have been been named NABC All-District representing 27 selections. Adam Moorison and J.P. Batistia were first-team picks a year ago for the Bulldogs.
The NABC all-district teams are selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-America teams to be announced at the conclusion of the 2006-07 NCAA regular season.
