Stepp Academic All-American

STAMFORD, Conn. - Gonzaga University senior guard Blake Stepp has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America second team.
Stepp, a native of Eugene, Ore., has a 3.24 GPA in business administration. He was a third team All-America selection a year ago. Stepp's All-America selection is the 13th for men's basketball since Bryce McPhee earned third team honors in 1983. Stepp becomes the fourth multiple winner, McPhee and Jeff Brown each earning three Academic All-America honors. In addition to his third team selection in 1983, McPhee was a second team pick in 1984 and a first team pick in 1985. Brown was a third team selection in 1992, and a first team pick in both 1993 and 1994, capping his senior year by being named the Academic All-American of the Year. Jarrod Davis was a second team pick in 1991 and a first team honoree in 1992 as the other Bulldog to earn multiple honors.
In all, Gonzaga has earned 18 Academic All-America honors since 1983, baseball the recipient of five selections.
Stepp was joined on the second team by Clint Cuffle, University of Evansville, 3.75, civil engineering; Jason Parker, University of Tulsa, 3.52, management information systems; Brett Starkey, Denver University, 3.96, biology/pre-medicine, and Derek Winans, Southeast Missouri State University, 4.00, business management.
The first team was comprised of Adam Hess, William and Mary University, 3.53, finance; Chris Hill, Michigan State University, 3.84, finance; Michael Kuebler, University of Hawai'i, 3.67, business administration; Adam Mark, Belmont University, 3.96, computer science, and Academic All-American of the Year Emeka Okafor of the University of Connecticut, 3.74, finance.
