Pepperdine Comeback Silences Lions

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Gonzaga University will play either Pepperdine University or the University of San Diego in the 6 p.m. semifinal Sunday of the West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament at the Leavey Center on the Santa Clara University campus.
The Bulldogs, the No. 1 seed and regular-season champion, is seeded into the semifinals as is No. 2 seed Saint Mary's College. The Gaels will play either the University of San Francisco, the University of Portland or Santa Clara University in Sunday's 9 p.m. semifinal. USF and Portland met in Friday's late game, that winner meeting the host Broncos at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
In Friday's men's tournament opener, the Waves rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to down cross-town rival Loyola Marymount University 91-79. Pepperdine will now play No. 4 seed USD Saturday at 5:30 p.m., the winner advancing to meet the Bulldogs.
Glen McGowan had 19 points and Kingsley Costain and Alex Acker 17 each to lead five Waves in double figures.
Brandon Worthy paced the Lions with a game-high 22 points.
The game was marred by 53 fouls and 69 free throws. Pepperdine went 30-for-40 from the charity stripe while LMU was 21-for-29.
