Bulldogs, Gaels In Fourth Straight WCC Title Game Monday

LAS VEGAS - Second seed Gonzaga University and No. 1 seed Saint Mary's College will meet for the fourth straight season in the championship game of the 2012 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Basketball Championships Monday at 6 p.m. at the Orleans Arena.

The Bulldogs earned their shot in the title game with a 77-58 semifinal victory over No. 3 seed BYU Saturday. Freshman guard Kevin Pangos went 10-for-17 from the field, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range on his way to 30 points. Elias Harris scored 10 points and hauled in 15 rebounds.

The Gonzaga defense was outstanding, holding BYU to 37.7 percent from the field on 20-of-53. BYU finished 3-of-18 from 3-point range.

Gonzaga made 7-of-15 from beyond the arc and hit 55 percent overall. The Bulldogs also held a 37-31 edge in rebounds, 38-18 edge on points in the paint and 15-9 advantage on points off turnovers

Saint Mary's advanced to the final with an 83-78 victory over No. 5 seed University of San Francisco. The Gaels once again played without guard Stephen Holt who has been out three weeks with a knee injury.

Gonzaga will be aiming for its second straight title and third in the last four years, all against Saint Mary's. The Gaels will be seeking their third title overall, having won in 1997 and again in 2010, the latter victory over the Bulldogs.

The Zags are appearing in their 18th WCC title game while SMC will be playing in its seventh.
