Gonzaga Third in USA Today/ESPN Top 25

March 8, 2004

Saint Joseph's moved atop the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 men's basketball poll Monday, the only remaining undefeated team in the NCAA Division I ranks and one of only two teams to defeat Gonzaga this year.

The Bulldogs improved a notch to third behind the Hawks and Stanford, the latter undefeated until last Saturday's loss at Washington and the only other team to beat the 26-2 Bulldogs who play Saint Mary's on Monday at 9 p.m. PST on ESPN in the title game of the West Coast Conference Tournament.

Gonzaga's school-record 19-game winning streak is the second longest in the country behind 27-0 Saint Joseph's.

The Bulldogs moved ahead of Duke in this week's poll as Saint Joseph's and Stanford swapped spots, the Hawks receiving all 31 first-place votes from the coaches.
