Bulldogs Draw Winthrop In NCAA First Round

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University Bulldogs are heading to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season as Gonzaga was seeded No. 3 in the Albuquerque Regional announced by the NCAA on Sunday afternoon. Gonzaga will play Winthrop University out of the Big South Conference in the first round in Tucson, Ariz. Gonzaga finished the regular-season 25-4 and earned the West Coast Conference's automatic bid with a WCC championship game win over Saint Mary's College. Gonzaga is ranked No. 11 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today poll.
Winthrop is making its fifth NCAA appearance in the last seven years entering the NCAA Tournament on an 18-game win streak. The Eagles were 27-5 overall, 16-1 in the Big South Conference earning the league's automatic bid with a championship game win over Charleston Southern University. The Eagles are seeded at No. 14
Also playing in the same pod as Gonzaga and Winthrop are Texas Tech University and UCLA with the Red Raiders earning a No. 6 seed and UCLA a No. 11.
Game times for the NCAA first round games on Thursday, March 17, will be announced by CBS and the NCAA late Sunday evening.
Ticket information for Gonzaga's first round game will also be released later on Sunday evening.
