Gonzaga 11th In Coaches Poll

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - Illinois was a unanimous selection as the No. 1 team in the final USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll released Sunday.

Hours after defeating Wisconsin to add the Big Ten Conference tournament championship to its regular-season title, Illinois (32-1) received all 31 first-place votes and 775 points from a panel of Division I coaches.

The Fighting Illini are the top overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. They are seeded first in the Chicago Region.

Duke (25-5) climbed from fifth to second after winning the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. The Blue Devils received 716 points and the top seed in the Austin Region.

Falling from second to third was North Carolina (27-4), which lost to Georgia Tech in the semifinals of the ACC tournament.

The Tar Heels are the top seed in the Syracuse Region.

Jumping from sixth to fourth was Louisville (29-4), which won the Conference USA tournament but was seeded just fourth in the Albuquerque Region. The Cardinals have won 18 of their last 19 games.

Kentucky (25-5) fell from fourth to fifth after its loss to Florida in the Southeastern Conference title game. The Wildcats are seeded second in the Austin Region.

Wake Forest (26-5) also took a tumble from third to sixth after losing in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament without suspended star point guard Chris Paul. The Demon Deacons are seeded second in the Albuquerque Region.

Washington (27-5), which won the Pac-10 Conference tournament, climbed from 13th to seventh in the rankings and received the remaining top seed in the Albuquerque Region. Big 12 Conference tournament champion Oklahoma State (24-6) climbed from 11th to eighth and Arizona (27-6) and slumping Kansas (23-6) complete the top 10.

Gonzaga (25-4) is 11th and is followed by Boston College (24-4), Syracuse (27-6), Connecticut (22-7), Michigan State (22-6), Oklahoma (24-7), Utah (27-5), Florida (23-7), Wisconsin (22-8) and Pacific (26-3).

Boston College and Michigan State fell five spots and Pacific dropped four. Syracuse won the Big East Conference tournament to climb five rungs and Florida won the SEC tourney to jump seven.

Alabama (24-7), Villanova (22-7), Cincinnati (24-7) and newcomers Texas Tech (20-10) and Georgia Tech (19-11) complete the rankings.
