NCAA Overnight Ratings Up Four Percent
March 17, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) - Overnight ratings for the first night of the NCAA basketball tournament were up 4 percent over last year and at the highest level since 1994.
Regional coverage of 16 games Thursday on CBS averaged a 4.7 overnight rating and 10 share, Nielsen Media Research said Friday.
Last year, the opening Thursday got a 4.5 overnight rating and 10 share. The overnight for the first Thursday hasn't been this high since 1994, when it got a 4.9/12.
The overnights are based on the nation's largest television markets. The rating is the percentage of the nation's televisions tuned to a broadcast, and the share is the percentage watching a telecast among those televisions on at the time.
