Gonzaga Finishes No. 1 In Final Associated Press Top 25
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University will forever be No. 1 in the eyes of the Associated Press as the Bulldogs sit atop the final AP Top 25 men's basketball poll this week.
Un like the USA Today Top 25 voted on by coaches, the AP does not do a final poll following the completion of the NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs received 45 of 65 first-place votes in the final AP vote of sportswriters for 1,604 points. Louisville received the other 20 first-place votes and 1,579 points for second. Gonzaga becomes the first school from a non-BCS conference to finish No. 1 in the final AP poll since Massachusetts of the Atlantic 10 in 1996.
The Bulldogs were a near-unanimous pick in the USA Today balloting of coaches, receiving 30 of the 31 first-place votes and 774 points. Louisville received the lone remaining first-place vote and 743 points for second.
Gonzaga, the No. 1 seed in the West in the NCAA Tournament, begins tournament play Thursday at 1:10 p.m. PDT at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
