Violette To Face The Globetrotters

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Gonzaga senior forward Cory Violette's next action will be against the Harlem Globetrotters.

Violette is among a team of 12 college senior all-stars who will meet the fabled Globetrotters on Friday at 7 p.m. CST in the annual National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Star game.

The Boise, Idaho, native was an All-West Coast Conference first-team selection and a NABC District 14 second-team selection. He averaged 14.2 ppg and a team-leading 8.2 rpg this season ins helping Gonzaga to a 28-3 season, a 14-0 WCC regular-season and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs were ranked second in the final regular-season USA Today/ESPN Top 25 and third in the final Associated Press Top 25 balloting.

Violette will be joined All-America guard Andre Emmett of Texas Tech and All-America forward Matt Freije of Vanderbilt. The NABC roster also includes guard Tony Bobbitt, Cincinnati; forward Erik Daniels, Kentucky; guard Miah Davis, Pacific; guard David Hawkins, Temple; forward Leroy Hurd, Texas-San Antonio; guard Matt Lottich, Stanford; center Velimir Radinovic, Ohio State; center Keith Waleskowski, Dayton, and guard Rashad Wright. Georgia.

Emmett was a first team NABC All-America selection, and Freije earned third team All-America honors from the NABC.

Jim Boeheim, who guided his Syracuse University team to the 2003 NCAA championship in New Orleans, will coach the NABC all-stars. In his 28th season, Boeheim's Orangemen reached the Sweet 16 this season before losing to Alabama.

In other developments in conjunction with the Final Four, Gonzaga senior Blake Stepp has withdrawn from the 3-point competition in the 16th annual Mountain Dew College Basketball Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships scheduled for Thursday. Stepp, a second-team Academic All-American this season with a 3.24 grade point average, has an academic commitment he is not able to re-schedule.
