Gonzaga Men's Basketball 20th In Final ESPN/USA TODAY Poll
April 3, 2001 Gonzaga University's men's basketball team has been ranked in the final ESPN/USA TODAY Top 25 for the third straight season, the Bulldogs garnering the 20th spot in this year's final poll with 179 points. National champion Duke University received all 31 first-place votes following Monday's title-game victory over the University of Arizona, which finished second with 744 points. Michigan State University, victorious over Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 matchup at the Georgia Dome, finished third with 697 points. Four teams on the Bulldog schedule finished ranked in the top 25. In addition to No. 2 Arizona and No. 3 MSU, the Bulldogs also played No. 13 University of Florida and No. 21 University of Virginia, the latter Gonzaga's first-round victim in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs, who made their third straight appearance in the Sweet 16 this year, finished the 1999 season ranked 12th following their run to the Elite Eight, and capped last season with a No. 24 ranking after another run to the Sweet 16.
