MBB's Karnowski Returning for Senior Season
SPOKANE, Wash. – Junior center Przemek Karnowski announced today that he has decided to return for his senior season with the Gonzaga men’s basketball team.
“After talking with my family and the coaching staff, I decided what’s best for me is to stay at Gonzaga for my senior season,” Karnowski said. "I decided I didn’t want to pass up my last opportunity to play with these guys at GU. My coaches, teammates and the whole community have been so supportive over my three years, and I’m excited to come back for one more. I love Gonzaga, and we still have a lot left to accomplish.”
The Torun, Poland, native averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in helping the Bulldogs reach the Elite Eight and set a school record with 35 wins. Karnowski started 37 of 38 games and ranked second on the team with a .622 (179-for-288) field goal percentage, earning First Team All-WCC honors. His ability to knock down shots also helped Gonzaga lead the nation in field goal percentage this season.
Karnowski recorded two double-doubles this season, including a 10-point, 11-rebound performance at then-No. 3 Arizona. He was also named the WCC Player of the Week on Jan. 5 after a 21-point outburst, including his first career three-pointer, in a win at Portland. He had a career-high 24 points against San Francisco in the quarterfinals of the WCC Tournament.
In Gonzaga’s Sweet 16 win over UCLA, Karnowski was dominant, scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds to help the Zags reach the regional final.
Karnowski ended the season ranked No. 3 all-time at Gonzaga in career field-goal percentage at .600 (398-for-663) and fifth all-time at GU in blocked shots (112).This season, Gonzaga’s school-record 35-3 record was accompanied by a record 22-game win streak, WCC regular season and tournament titles, and a trip to the Elite Eight.
