SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's basketball coach Mark Few has announced the signing of Anthony Reason, a 6-5, 200-pound wing from Compton (Calif.) Community College.

Reason, a native of Ocala, FL, averaged 10.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg and 1.8 steals/game as a sophomore this past season. The Tarters went 27-6 and advanced to the second round of the Southern California Regional. He shot 54.5 percent from the field (127-for-233) and 46.5 percent from 3-point range (27-for-58).

As a freshman, Reason averaged 7.3 ppg and 4.3 rpg as Compton CC went 23-6 and advanced to the first round of the California State Tournament, which qualifies the top four teams from both the Northern and Southern California Regional. He shot 58.1 percent from the field (75-for-129).

"We think Anthony gives us a quality athlete on the wing," Few said. "He is an excellent rebounder in addition to his offensive skills."

Reason prepped at Ocala Vanguard High which is also the alma mater of current Minnesota Vikings and former Central Florida University quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Reason was a freshman when Culpepper, a 1998 Heisman Trophy finalist, was a senior.

Reason averaged 14.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg his senior season at Ocala. He was named Player of the Year and Mr. Central Florida Basketball as selected by the Star Banner and was named MVP of the North Central Florida All-Star game with a 22-point, 11-rebound night. He scored a career-high 27 points against Daytona Beach Mainland and had 26 points against Tampa Prep.
