Alex Hernandez Signs Men's Basketball Letter
May 22, 2000
SPOKANE, Wash. - Alex Hernandez, a 6-4, 204-pound wing from Casper (WY) Community College has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Gonzaga University, men's basketball coach Mark Few announced.
Hernandez, a native of Las Vegas, NV, and a graduate of Valley High School, averaged 23.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 2.2 steals/game as a sophomore this past season. He was a third team junior college All-America selection and also earned Region IX Player of the Year honors. He was also named to the All-Region IX first team as a freshman in 1999.
As a senior at Valley HS, he helped lead the squad to the 1998 Nevada State title and was named the state's Player of the Year.
"Alex is a great scorer. He has proven it at the high school and community college level, and we think he'll be able to score at this level. Not only can he score, but he can also rebound. He's a physical wing who is tough to defend," Few said.
