It's Official: USC Transfer Byron Wesley Headed To Zags
SPOKANE, Wash. – It’s official. University of Southern California guard Byron Wesley is headed to Gonzaga University to join the men’s basketball team this season.
The 6-5, 210-pound senior-to-be has signed his Gonzaga financial aid agreement. He will graduate from USC this summer and will be immediately eligible to play for the Bulldogs in the 2014-15 season.
“Byron is going to be a great addition to our group. He is a very experienced player who can score the ball in a variety of ways, defend and rebound his position at a high level,” Gonzaga head coach Mark Few said. “He will bring some size and toughness to our perimeter group.”
Wesley led the Trojans in scoring and rebounding this past season, averaging 17.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg. He was one of six Pacific-12 Conference players during the regular season to rank in the top 15 among conference players in scoring and rebounding and the only one to lead his team in both. Wesley ranked sixth among conference players in points per game and was 14th in rebounds per game. Wesley was named the USC team MVP and was awarded the Bob Boyd Award as the top rebounder.
He scored a career-high 31 points against Northern Arizona University and again at Washington State University, and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds against Arizona State University this past season. He had 13 games of 20 or more points in 2014.
