Dickau WCC Male Scholar-Athlete of Year
June 10, 2002
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University senior basketball guard Dan Dickau was named the West Coast Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Monday, the sixth Bulldog to receive the honor.
Santa Clara University women's soccer player Danielle Slaton was named the WCC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year after helping lead the Broncos to the NCAA title last fall.
Dickau was named the WCC Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to regular-season and WCC Tournament titles as Gonzaga made its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. He was a two-time WCC Tournament MVP. The Vancouver, Wash., native was the Bulldogs' inaugural member of the Associated Press All-America first team, and was a John R. Wooden Award Top Five All-America honoree. Gonzaga posted a school-best record of 29-4 and finished the season ranked sixth in the AP Top 25.
Dickau, who graduated in December with 3.40 grade point average in broadcast studies, was a Verizon/College Sports Information Director of America All-District VIII and All-America academic first-team selection, as well as a two-time WCC All-Academic pick.
Off the court, Dickau also found time to volunteer for the Children's Miracle Network, visiting kids at the Shriner's Hospital and assisting with the annual telethon.
