July 10, 2010

SPOKANE, Wash. - Three former Gonzaga University men's basketball players - Matt Bouldin, Jeremy Pargo and Micah Downs - are participating in the NBA Summer League with hopes of making a NBA team this fall.

A fourth, Austin Daye, just completed his rookie season in the NBA after being drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the 15th player selected a year ago. He is playing with Detroit in Las Vegas.

The first session in Orlando ended Friday with Pargo playing for the Charlotte Bobcats. He is also on the roster for the Minnesota Timberwolves who will participate in the Las Vegas portion of the NBA Summer League which began Friday and concludes Sunday.

Pargo played in three of the five games the Bobcats played in Orlando, hitting a buzzer-beating, game-winning shot on a spin drive from the left side of the lane for an 86-85 win over Oklahoma City on Tuesday in his only start. Pargo averaged 19.7 minutes/game in his three appearances. He averaged 8.0 ppg, 5.3 assists/game and 0.7 steals/game. He scored 10 points in a loss to Boston for his lone double-digit scoring output.

Bouldin, who signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bulls following the June NBA Draft, won't see his first NBA action until at least Tuesday when the Bulls open play with Denver. The Bucks and Downs play Tuesday against Dallas and the Timberwolves and Pargo see action Monday against San Antonio.

Pargo played this past season in Israel while Downs was in Turkey. Pargo and Downs were both seniors on Gonzaga's 2009 NCAA Sweet Sixteen team, while Bouldin helped lead the Bulldogs to a 12th straight NCAA Tournament appearance this past season.
