Two Zags In Utah Jazz 2001 Summer Camp

July 11, 2001

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Seventeen players, including former Gonzaga University guards Matt Santangelo and Richie Frahm, have been invited to the Utah Jazz 2001 summer camp, vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor announced Tuesday.

Six NBA veterans and nine rookie/free agents will be in camp when it opens Monday at Franklin Covey Wellness Center.

Heading this summer's invitees are Jazz veterans Scott Padgett, Quincy Lewis and DeShawn Stevenson, along with NBA veterans Harold Jamison, Rusty LaRue and Roderick Rhodes.

These six players will be joined by Andrei Kirilenko, one of Utah's first-round draft pick from the 1999 NBA Draft, Jarron Collins, Utah's second-round selection in this year's draft and Kaniel Dickens, the Jazz's second-round pick in the 2000 draft, returning after a stint in Europe.

Frahm and Santangelo are one set of former teammates in camp, joined by teammates James Foster and 7-2 center Sebu Mabaso from NAIA Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn.

Rounding out this summer's roster are former University of Utah center Nate Althoff, center Todd Lindeman, formerly of Indiana University, Billy Thomas, who finished his collegiate career at Kansas in 1998, and Alvin Young a 6-3 guard from Niagara University who was the NCAA Division I leading scorer as a senior in 2000, averaging 25.1 ppg.

Following the four-day camp, the roster will be trimmed down with the remaining players scheduled to participate in the Rocky Mountain Revue to be held at Salt Lake Community College from July 20 through July 28.

Since leading Gonzaga to the 2000 NCAA Sweet Sixteen, Santangelo spent the past year playing in both Greece and Italy, while Frahm has been rehabilitating from two foot surgeries.
