Morrison Scores 29 In Summer League
July 12, 2006
ORLANDO, Fla. - Former Gonzaga University standout Adam Morrison led all scorers as the Charlotte Bobcats pounced on the Chicago Bulls early en route to an 88-87 victory to raise their record to 2-0 in the Pepsi Pro Summer League.
Morrison, who had 12 points and went just 3-for-14 from the field in his Summer League debut on Monday, went 8-for-17 (47.1%) from the field and 2-3 from behind the arc. Sean May and Alan Anderson both chipped in 15 for the Bobcats.
Heading into the second quarter, the Bobcats held a 25-14 lead, led by Morrison's 15 points. Morrison seemed to find his touch following a shaky debut in last night's game, hitting on five of seven shots in the period. Starting the second period the Bobcats continued to surge ahead, ending the half with Morrison draining a three and pushing the Bobcats lead to 13, 49-36.
Thabo Sefolosha, Tyrus Thomas and the Bulls came out ready to play in the second half, going on an 8-0 run and cutting the lead to five. And it didn't stop there. Led by Eddie Basden's 10 third-quarter points, the Bulls surged ahead, 56-55 with 3:27 left in the third. But it didn't stay that way for long, as Brett Blizzard hit a three with 1:45 left to put the Bobcats back on top, finishing the third on a 7-2 run to put them up 67-62.
The Bobcats maintained a lead for most of the fourth, but a focused Bulls team was quietly chipping away. Aaron Miles cut the Bobcats lead to one, 85-86 on a layup with 28.8 left.. On the ensuing possession, the Bobcats inbounded to Morrison who threw out of a double team, but they were unable to convert resulting in a Chicago timeout with 8.0 remaining. Sefolosha then hit a 15-footer from the baseline to put Chicago back on top, 87-86, with 3.1 on the clock.
Charlotte got the shot they wanted as Morrison got free for a floater in the lane. But, it was off the mark and D'or Fischer tipped it in with 0.1 left for the victory to remain the only unbeaten team in this summer league.
