Elias Harris Inks Two-Year Deal With Los Angeles Lakers
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a deal with former Gonzaga University forward Elias Harris.
Harris was not drafted before playing well in the Las Vegas summer league, where he averaged 10.2 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Lakers' entry. The 6-foot-8 forward scored 17 in the Lakers' final game.
Agent Mark Bartelstein says Friday that the deal is for two years, with the second a team option.
The native of Speyer, Germany, appeared in 135 games with 134 starts for the Bulldogs in his career. His 1,857 career points rank fourth and his 979 career rebounds rank second on the all-time Gonzaga charts. He was a two-time All-West Coast Conference first-team selection and was a three-time John R. Wooden Award nominee.
This past season he averaged 14.6 ppg and a team-leading 7.4 rpg in helping Gonzaga to its inaugural 30-win season at 32-3, the program’s inaugural No. 1 national ranking and to a 15th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
He’ll join another former Zag in Robert Sacre who was the last pick of the 2012 NBA Draft and played for the Lakers last season. Sacre recently signed a contract for the upcoming season. Harris and Sacre were teammates with the Lakers in the NBA Summer League which concluded recently.
