July 30, 2004
SEATTLE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head men's basketball coach Mark Few will be the subject of a documentary entitled "Before the Bigs" to air Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. PST on Fox Sports Net Northwest.
Few's segment is one of 13 new episodes being aired. The show launched this past March with 19 original episodes on members of the Seattle Mariners organization, and has been expanded to include other Northwest sports personalities. The show will also be re-broadcast on Sept. 16 at 12:30 a.m. on Fox Sports Net. The show is also available to DirecTV subscribers on Channel 651.
The documentary traces Few's roots back to his hometown of Creswell, Ore., and follows his career that has seen him take Gonzaga basketball to new heights as he enters his sixth season as head coach and his 16th year overall in the Bulldog program.
"Before the Bigs" may best be described as a 30-minute sports documentary that thoughtfully weaves the stories of the people, places and events that cultivated the lives of the Northwest's biggest sports personalities, up to the point when they reached "the big time."
Utilizing never-before-seen video and photos, as well as extensive interviews with family, friends, teammates, neighbors, and coaches, "Before the Bigs" constructs the building blocks that made these people who they are today. It is storytelling beyond what viewers will find anywhere else. By reaching further and looking deeper, the show captures the essence of the most prevalent names in the Northwest sports scenes, providing a better understanding of who they are and what they are about.
