Gonzaga, Washington To Renew Men's Basketball Rivalry In '16
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University and the University of Washington will renew their men’s basketball rivalry during the 2016-17 season, the schools announced in a joint release Monday.
The teams have agreed to a 4-year home-and-home series, but no decision has been made as to where the series would start.
“We always knew we would resume the series,” Gonzaga head coach Mark Few said. “But our schedules have been full the last few years. We have an opportunity in 2016-17 and both teams were agreeable to playing.”
The teams last played Dec. 9, 2006, in the McCarthey Athletic Center, the host Bulldogs taking a 97-77 victory. The Huskies had snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series the previous season with a 99-95 home victory.
“Our home-and-homes have been great,” Few said of the recent Bulldog schedules. “Certainly when we did play Washington the games were very high intensity, great crowds and great passion. We hope to have that same feeling with the next four years of the series.”
