Casey Calvary Among Wooden Award Top 50

Spokane, Wash. - For the second straight season Gonzaga University will be represented on the John R. Wooden Award Pre-season All-America Team.

Casey Calvary, a 6-8, 235-pound forward, is among the Top 50 nominees for the 25th anniversary of the award. On March 27, 2001, the 10-player Wooden Award All-America Team will be announced. One member of the Wooden Award All-America Team will be selected on Friday, April 6, 2001, as the recipient of the Wooden Award Trophy as the nation's "Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year."

Guard Matt Santangelo represented the Bulldogs on last season's pre-season Top 50.

Calvary averaged a career-high 13.4 ppg last season in earning All-West Coast Conference honors. He was named the MVP of the WCC Tournament as the Bulldogs captured their second straight WCC Tournament title and with it a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga advanced to the Sweet 16 of the tourney, one of only five teams to advance to the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons. He also grabbed 6.4 rpg to lead the Bulldogs.
