Oct. 6, 2017
SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga Athletics and Daktronics, Inc., completed installation of a new and upgraded videoboards inside the McCarthey Athletic Center this week.
The new boards, funded entirely through the generous benefaction of Gonzaga Athletics donors, will increase fan engagement and overall game atmosphere. The project, manufactured and installed by Daktronics, replace endwall videoboards with upgraded and larger screens, while adding a four-sided centerhung, centerhung lower ring and new sound system.
“First, we want to thank our donors for their tremendous support as we continue to provide our student-athletes and fans with a first-class game experience,” Gonzaga Director of Athletics Mike Roth said. “Daktronics did a great job designing and installing this new system, and we are excited to showcase it to the public this weekend. The new boards and sound system will add to an already electric atmosphere in McCarthey.”
The videoboards will make their public debut at this weekend’s Numerica Kraziness in the Kennel event on Oct. 7 and will feature team introductions, dynamic score and statistical information, instant replay, animations and graphics, interactive elements and sponsor content. The project keeps the McCarthey Athletic Center on the cutting edge of college athletics and will continue to draw fans into the excitement of the action.
The upgrades and additions include a centerhung videoboard system with 21-foot by 12.5-foot rectangle screens facing the sidelines, 12.5-foot by 12.5-foot squares facing the baselines and a pair of 36-foot by 9-foot endwall boards that replace the existing video screens and accompanying stat panels. The centerhung board will also feature a full circular ring underneath that is three feet high and has a circumference of 64.5 feet.
The new sound system inside the arena is integrated with the video and scoring system to provide full-range, clear sound reproduction to provide an equally impressive audio experience.
