'Kraziness In The Kennel' Tips Off Hoops Season

Oct. 21, 2003

SPOKANE, Wash. - Fans will get a chance to meet Gonzaga University's men's and women's basketball teams Saturday during "Kraziness in the Kennel" that tips off the basketball season.

The third annual event, which replaced Midnight Madness, is free to the public with seating available on a first come, first serve basis. The doors open at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs women's basketball team, 18-12 a year ago and a West Coast Conference Tournament semifinalist, will be introduced at 1:15 p.m. The 2003 men's basketball highlight video will be shown at 1:25 p.m. and the 2004 edition of the Bulldogs will be introduced at 1:50 p.m. The Bulldog men will conclude the festivities with a running-clock scrimmage.

Gonzaga's men made a fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season, falling 96-95 in double overtime to the University of Arizona in the second round following a first-round victory over the University of Cincinnati.

"This is a great opportunity for fans to see our basketball teams, plus it's Fall Family Weekend on campus. Kraziness in The Kennel gives us a chance to showcase our programs prior to the start of the season," athletic director Mike Roth said. "Based on what both teams accomplished last season, we're excited about the upcoming season for both of our basketball programs."

Gonzaga's men will play its first of two exhibition contests Nov. 1 against Emporia State University, while the Bulldog women will face a touring team from the Czech Republic on Nov. 10. Both games start at 7 p.m. in The Kennel.
