ESPN2 To Televise Finale In The Kennel

Nov. 5, 2003

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The Kennel will go out in front of a national television audience.

West Coast Conference Commissioner Michael Gilleran announced ESPN2 has picked up the Santa Clara University at Gonzaga University game on Feb. 28, the final game in the Bulldogs' storied Kennel. A new arena is currently under construction and scheduled to open for the 2004-05 season.

The tipoff for the regular-season finale has been changed to 1 p.m.

Gonzaga will now appear on ESPN/ESPN2 a minimum of seven times during the upcoming season, with two more appearances possible in the WCC Tournament semifinals and finals.

Gilleran also said the College Sports Network (CSTV) has agreed to televise the Gonzaga at Saint Mary's College game on Feb. 14 from McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif. CSTV, the new home of college sports, boasts the most in-depth sports coverage of 1,200 universities and colleges encompassing 360,000 student-athletes at every level of college sports. CSTV is available nationwide on satellite and cable.

"This is great news for Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's and the WCC," Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said of the added national television exposure. "I think it speaks highly of not only our program, but of the West Coast Conference and the high caliber of basketball played in this conference."

Gonzaga's local television package will be announced soon.
