Jerry Krause Recognized By Alma Mater

GREELY, Colo. - Jerry Krause, who returned to Gonzaga University as Director of Men's Basketball Operations this year, was one of 10 Honored Alumni recipients of Northern Colorado University.

The 10 were recognized recently during Homecoming activities.

Krause was honored for Contribution to Sport. The most successful basketball coach to date at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash., Krause coached the Eagles for 17 years and helped usher their transition from NAIA to NCAA Division I status. Taking over a program with a decade-long losing streak, he retired with an overall record of 262-195.

Prior to becoming head coach at EWU, Krause had been an assistant at Northern Colorado for three seasons. He also received his master's degree in 1995 and his doctorate degree in 1967 from Northern Colorado.

Krause was a long-standing member of the NCAA Rules Committee, was on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and served on the Selection Committee of the National Basketball Hall of Fame. He still serves as Research Chair of the NABC, and is an active member of the NAIA Basketball Coaches and National Association for Sports and Physical Education Halls of Fame.

Krause has authored 13 books on coaching basketball, produced 18 instructional videos and serves as a consultant to many athletic organizations.

Currently in his second stint with the Gonzaga men's basketball program, Krause served as a part-time assistant coach with the Bulldogs from 1985-92. This past summer he returned from a 5-year civilian term at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he was a professor of sport philosophy and director of instruction for the department of physical education.
