SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head men's basketball coach Mark Few announced the signing of Larry Gurganious (gur-gay-nus) and Mamery Diallo (mam-ur-EE DEE-all-O) to national letters-of-intent on Thursday.
Gurganious is a 6-5 small forward from St. Mary's High in Berkeley, Calif., while Diallo is a 6-9, 235-pound center/forward from Midland Junior College in Midland, Texas.
Gurganious averaged 20 ppg, 11 rpg, 4 assists and 2 blocks per game as a junior. He attended the ABCD All-American camp in Teaneck, N.J., and the NBA Players Association Top 100 camp in Richmond, Virg., and is ranked as the third best small forward on the West Coast by InsidersHoops.com and was recently selected the top small for on the Best in the West team selected by the Long Beach Press-Telegram. He had recruiting interest from several schools in the Pacific-10, Big 12 and Mountain West conferences.
Diallo helped Midland place third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Tournament last year, averaging 18 ppg, 12 rpg, 6 assists 4 steals and 3 blocks per game. Midland captured the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) and NJCAA Region V titles in 2004. He earned a preseason All-American nomination this season. Diallo, a native of Evreux, France, earned a nomination for Preseason All-American this season and is currently averaging 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks as the Chaparrals are currently 1-1.
"Gurganious will be a great Zag," Few said. "He's athletic and has a great feel for the game. He'll be ready to play as a freshman."
Few is also excited about his newest big man.
"Diallo has great size and athleticism," Few said. "He will be a perfect fit for the type of players we have in our program. With another year of development at a junior college, we expect him to come in next year and be ready to contribute."
