MBB's Pangos Named to 2015 Lute Olson Award Watch List

BOSTON – Senior guard Kevin Pangos was named to the 2015 Lute Olson Award Watch List, the Lute Olson Award committee announced on this week.

Pangos enters his final season as a Zag after leading GU to West Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles last season. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game in 2013-14. He was named to the preseason All-WCC First Team earlier this fall, while the team was picked to win the regular season title by the league’s coaches.

Pangos was also named to the preseason Bob Cousy Award Watch List, which is an award given to the nation’s top collegiate point guard.

The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team. Freshmen and first-year transfers can be named to the season-ending All-America team, but are not eligible to receive the Player of the Year honors.

The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.

The 2015 recipient will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 men's NCAA Basketball Championship. Past recipients of the award include Doug McDermott (Creighton, two times), Shane Larkin (Miami), Kemba Walker (Connecticut) and Sherron Collins (Kansas).
