Just five ranked teams played in the opening days of the college basketball season and the two that faced each other were the only ones to make significant moves in The Associated Press' Top 25 on Monday.

Saint Joseph's used its 73-66 victory over Gonzaga in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic to move from 17th to No. 13 in the weekly rankings. The loss dropped the Bulldogs from 10th to No. 16.

Wake Forest beat Memphis 85-76 in the season-opening event at Madison Square Garden and moved up one spot to No. 19. The other ranked teams playing in the Classic held the same spots they had entering it. No. 22 Pittsburgh defeated Alabama 71-62 and No. 23 Marquette downed St. John's 52-45.

Connecticut held the No. 1 spot from the preseason voting as did the first nine teams in the poll. The Huskies received 69 first-place votes and 1,796 points from the national media panel. Duke was second with one No. 1 vote and 1,677 points.

Michigan State, which was No. 1 on one ballot, was third. The Spartans were followed by Arizona, Missouri, Kansas, Syracuse, Florida, North Carolina and Kentucky, which moved up one place to round out the Top Ten.

Kansas received the only other first-place vote.

Texas moved up one place to 11th and was followed in the Top 20 by Illinois, Saint Joseph's, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Louisville, Cincinnati, Wake Forest and Stanford.

The last five ranked teams were Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Marquette, North Carolina State and Oklahoma State.

All but six teams in the Top 25 will have played at least one game by the end of this first full week of the season. Arizona, Missouri, Syracuse, Florida, Louisville and Notre Dame don't open their seasons until the next week.
