This was the first meeting between the programs.

The Mustangs shot just 31 percent, making 19 of 61 shots. They shot just 24 percent in the second half.

Gonzaga, which scored 104 points in its season opening win over Sacramento State, shot a modest 45 percent against SMU.

Gonzaga led by 10 at halftime, and maintained that lead in the early going of the second half behind a pair of 3-pointers by Pangos, who also had seven assists.

After Keith Frazier's 3-pointer for SMU cut the Gonzaga lead to eight, the Zags scored seven straight points to build a 50-35 advantage with 14 minutes left.

After an SMU free throw, Gonzaga scored six straight points and the Mustangs called time out with 12 minutes left. At that point they had made just 2 of 14 field goals in the second half.

The Mustangs did not threaten after that, and Gonzaga continued to extend its lead.
