Bulldogs Sign Chicago Prep Standout

Nov. 21, 2004

SPOKANE, Wash. -Gonzaga University head men's basketball coach Mark Few has announced the signing of Chicago prep standout Jeremy Pargo to a national letter-of-intent.

Pargo, a 6-2 point guard and one of the top guards in the state of Illinois, averaged 24 ppg, 8 rpg and 7 assists/game as a junior last season for Robeson High.

"He is the most sought after player we've ever signed at Gonzaga," Few said. "There were a lot of Top 25 programs who wanted him."

He is the brother of Chicago Bulls guard Jannero Pargo, also a Robeson graduate, who signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2002-03 season. He has since played with Toronto, and initially signed a 10-day contract with the Bulls last March before signing a long-term contract and beginning this season with the Bulls.

Pargo is the third player to sign with the Bulldogs during the early signing period that ended last Wednesday. Gonzaga also signed Larry Gurganious (gur-gay-nus) and Mamery Diallo (mam-ur-EE DEE-all-O) to national letters-of-intent. Gurganious is a 6-5 small forward from St. Mary's High in Berkeley, Calif., while Diallo is a 6-9, 235-pound center/forward from Midland Junior College in Midland, Texas.
