Gonzaga Men's Basketball Climbs To No. 19 In Both Major Polls

            SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's basketball team climbed to 19th in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Top 25 polls following a pair of wins last for a 3-0 start in the young season.

            The Zags, 22nd a week ago in the AP rankings, received 454 points and was just 14 points behind 18th-ranked Vanderbilt University.

            Gonzaga jumped four spots in the ESPN/USA Today rankings after being 23rd a week ago. The Bulldogs received 208 points, trailing No. 18 University of California by eight points.

            Gonzaga downed Washington State University 89-81 at home and stopped the University of Hawai'i 73-54 in a game played in Vancouver, British Columbia this past season. Gonzaga moved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2009 season.

            The University of North Carolina remained No. 1 in both polls, the Tar Heels receiving 62 of 65 first-place votes. No. 3 Ohio State University received one first-place vote with the other two going to fourth-ranked University of Connecticut. No. 2 University of Kentucky did not receive any first-place votes.

            UNC received 30-of-31 first-place votes in the coaches' poll with Kentucky getting the other nod for the top spot.

            Gonzaga returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Western Michigan University in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Classic at the Spokane Arena.
