Bulldogs In Field For 2012 Old Spice Classic Basketball Tourney
BUENA VISTA, Fla. - While Gonzaga University may be home for Thanksgiving this year, the Bulldogs already know where they'll be next year.
The Bulldogs will join seven other teams for the 2012 Old Spice Classic Nov. 22-25 at the HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.
The field will also include Vanderbilt University, Clemson University, Davidson College, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas at El Paso, Marist College and West Virginia University.
Games will be played Thanksgiving Day Nov. 22, Friday Nov. 23 and Sunday Nov. 25. The teams have Saturday off.
Gonzaga won the event in 2008, the 9th-ranked Bulldogs topping 12th-ranked University of Tennessee 83-74 in the title game as Jeremy Pargo was named the tournament MVP and Josh Heytvelt was named to the all-tournament team. Gonzaga had downed the University of Maryland 81-59 in the semifinals and opened the tournament with an 83-71 victory over Oklahoma State University.
The Bulldogs and Vanderbilt are currently ranked in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25, the Bulldogs checking in at No. 19 this week and the Commodores at No. 22. In addition to Gonzaga and Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Clemson also participated in last spring's NCAA Tournament, UTEP played in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and Davidson competed in the Championship Basketball Invitation (CBI).
The bracket will be announced later.
