Pangos Named WCC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga University junior guard Kevin Pangos has been named the West Coast Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for leading the Bulldogs past Washington State University last Thursday.
In the lone propelled game of the week for the Bulldogs, Pangos scored 27 points, going 8-for-13 from field including 5-for-8 from 3-point range and connected on all six free throws to improve to 15-for-15 from the line this season.
With the performance, Pangos, who had 3 rebounds and 4 assists, continued his string of big games against the Cougars. The Canadian scored 33 points as a freshman in his first collegiate start, scored the game-winning basket last season in Pullman on a length-of-the-court drive and short bank shot in a 71-69 win and this year scored 27 points – 20 in the first half to get Gonzaga off to a 16-point halftime lead at 49-33. The native of Holland Landing, Ontario, is averaging 22.7 points in his three career games against WSU, going 19-for-41 from field for 46.3 percent, 15-for-26 from 3-point range for 57.7 percent and 15-for-17 from line for 82.2 percent.
Pangos and the Bulldogs will be in action later Monday when Gonzaga opens play in the EA Sports Maui Invitational against the University of Dayton at 9 p.m. PST on ESPN2.
