Morrison Named WCC Player Of Week

Nov. 28, 2005

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University junior forward Adam Morrison has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week following an outstanding showing at the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational.

Morrison, who was named tournament MVP, helped guide the Bulldogs to the tournament final. Morrison averaged a tournament-high 28.7 ppg on 50 percent shooting from the field (32-64) to go along with 7.0 rpg in leading the Bulldogs to wins over No. 20 University of Maryland (88-76), No. 12 Michigan State University (109-106 3OT) and a narrow 65-63 loss to No. 3 University of Connecticut in the championship game.

The Spokane, Wash., native started the tournament with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor and nine rebounds in the Zags win over the Terrapins. Morrison followed that up with a memorable 43-point, seven-rebound, four-assist effort in Gonzaga's classic triple-overtime win over Michigan State. His 43 points broke the tournament single-game scoring record previously held by Terrell Lowery of Loyola Marymount University (1990). Morrison capped the tournament with 18 points and five rebounds in the Zags near upset of No. 3 Connecticut.

In addition to shooting 50 percent from the field, Morrison went 7-for-13 from 3-point range for 53.8 percent.

He led the tournament in scoring with 86 points, eight shy of setting a tournament record, and his 15 free throws were also a tournament high.

Morrison and the sixth-ranked Bulldogs return to action Wednesday when Portland State University visits the McCarthey Athletic Center for a 5 p.m. contest.
