Tough Stretch Starts Wednesday At Home Against Notre Dame

SPOKANE, Wash. - Final exams don't start on the Gonzaga campus until Dec. 12, but the Bulldogs face three stern tests on the hardwood in an 11-day stretch beginning at home Wednesday when the University of Notre Dame visits.

          Game time on ESPN2 is 8:20 p.m.

The Bulldogs then make their first true road tip of the season when they head to undefeated University of Illinois (6-0). The tough stretch ends Dec. 10 when Tom Izzo brings his Michigan State University Spartans into the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The University of Notre Dame is repaying a visit to Spokane in exchange for last season's contest in South Bend, Ind. The Fighting Irish won the inaugural men's basketball matchup between the schools 83-79.

Gonzaga will be facing a University of Notre Dame team that lost Big East preseason All-Big East Conference selection Tim Abromaitis, a 6-8, 235-pound fifth-year forward who suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice last Friday. Abromaitis scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in Notre Dame's victory over Gonzaga last season.

Gonzaga was picked by the West Coast Conference coaches to win a 12th straight regular-season crown, while Big East Conference coaches picked the University of Notre Dame to finish ninth in the 16-team league.

Gonzaga's last outing was a 78-58 victory Saturday against Western Michigan University in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Classic played at the Spokane Arena.
