Bulldogs Fall To No. 22 In ESPN/USA Today Coaches Ballot

Gonzaga, coming off a split of home games against Washington State and Wake Forest last week, fell six spots to 22nd in this week's ESPN/USA Today men's basketball Top 25 as voted by the coaches.

The Bulldogs have a pair of games this week, hosting Augustana College Wednesday and heading to the Battle in Seattle Saturday to meet Davidson College.

The Bulldogs came from 15 points down to defeat WSU, then almost pulled their four double-digit comeback in five games but fell short in a 77-75 setback to Wake Forest.

Unbeatens Kansas, Texas, Villanova and Kentucky remained the top four teams in this week's poll, but Duke, which will meet the Bulldogs Dec. 19 in Madison Square Garden, fell three spots to No. 8 after losing to Wisconsin in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Kansas (7-0) picked up all 31 first-place votes to easily outdistance Texas (6-0), Villanova (8-0) and Kentucky (8-0). Purdue (7-0) climbed a spot to No. 5 after easily defeating Wake Forest and Buffalo.

Syracuse (8-0) and West Virginia (5-0) are sixth and seventh in the latest rankings.

Tennessee (6-1) climbed three spots to No. 9, one spot behind Duke. North Carolina (7-2) moved up one spot to No. 10, while Florida, which knocked off then No. 2 Michigan State, moved up six spots from No. 17 to No. 11.

Michigan State, meanwhile, fell five spots to No. 14.

This week, Kentucky meets No. 12 Connecticut and Syracuse faces Florida in the SEC/Big East Invitational, while No. 20 Butler plays a pair of games against teams in the top 25: Tuesday vs. No. 13 Georgetown in the Jimmy V Classic at New York and Saturday against No. 15 Ohio State. Georgetown plays No. 16 Washington on Saturday as well.
