Bulldogs, Wildcats In 10th Annual Battle In Seattle Saturday
SEATTLE, Wash. - The 10th annual State Farm Battle in Seattle unfolds Saturday at KeyArena as 14th ranked Gonzaga University hosts Kansas State University at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs are 5-4 in the event following a 71-60 win over the University of Arizona last season. The Bulldogs-Wildcats meeting with be the third in a series the Wildcats lead 2-0. KSU stopped Gonzaga 66-64 in Manhattan, Kans., in the 1994 NIT Second Round. KSU also prevailed Nov. 22, 2010, in the semifinals of the CBE held in Kansas City, Mo.
Kansas State first-year head coach Bruce Weber won't have to be told about the Battle in Seattle. He's the first opposing coach to make a second appearance in the event, having coached the University of Illinois past Gonzaga in the 2010 BIS 73-61. Weber is 3-1 all-time against Gonzaga, all coming during his 9-year tenure with the Fighting Illini. Gonzaga head coach Mark Few is 0-1 against KSU, although he was an assistant coach on the 1994 NIT squad that lost at KSU.
