Bulldogs Move Up One Spot In USA Today poll, fall one in AP
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s men’s basketball team, 10-1 and riding a 6-game winning streak, moved up one spot to a tie for 15th with Baylor University in the USA Today poll and fell one spot to 21st in the Associated Press Top 25 released Monday.
The Bulldogs defeated West Virginia University on the road 80-76 and the University of South Alabama 68-59 in the Battle in Seattle in their two wins last week.
The University of Arizona remained atop both polls after a close 72-70 escape at the University of Michigan last Saturday. The Wildcats received 63 of 65 first-place votes in the AP ranking of sportswriters and 30 of 32 first-place nods in the USA Today poll of coaches. Syracuse University received the other two votes in the AP balloting, with Syracuse and Ohio State University netting the other two USA Today votes for the top spot.
Gonzaga will be in action just once this week as players juggle basketball and final exams. The Bulldogs will travel to Wichita, Kans., to face Kansas State University Saturday in the Wichita Wildcat Classic. Game time is 12:30 p.m. PST on ESPN2. The game will also be broadcast on the IMG Gonzaga Radio Network including flagship station 1510 KGA CBS Sports Radio in Spokane.
