Bulldogs Host Air Force Thursday Prior To Christmas Break

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University gets one more test prior to Christmas break Thursday when the U.S. Air Force Academy makes its first visit to the Bulldog campus since 1985.

It will be the first time the teams have met since 1985. Tipoff is 6 p.m.

Gonzaga leads the all-time series with the Air Force 4-1, losing the first matchup Dec. 13, 1975, at Air Force 51-35. The Bulldogs topped the Falcons Jan. 22, 1977, in the old Martin Centre 68-55. The teams renewed the series Nov. 24, 1984, when the Bulldogs traveled to Colorado Springs to open the season with a 64-49 victory, then hosted AF the next season on Dec. 30, 1985, and claimed a 79-49 victory. The last meeting was Dec. 30, 1994, in the consolation game of the Cessna Classic hosted by Wichita State University, the Bulldogs taking the third-place trophy with a 95-62 victory.

Mark Few was a Gonzaga assistant the last time Gonzaga and Air Force did battle in Wichita, Kans., in December, 1994. He has never faced the Falcons in his 13 years as head coach of the Bulldogs. Air Force head coach Jeff Reynolds has never faced the Bulldogs.

Both Few and Reynolds were promoted to head coach after serving as assistant coaches at their respective institutions. Few was a 10-year assistant coach prior to taking the reins for the 1999-00 season, while Reynolds served as an assistant coach for two seasons prior to taking over for the 2007-08 season.
