Pangos Named West Coast Conference Player Of Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University freshman guard Kevin Pangos has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his role in the Bulldogs over Butler University and the Air Force Academy last week, Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich announced Monday.

For the week Pangos averaged 21.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 assists/game. He shot 56.0 percent from the field, going 14-for-25, and shot 47.4 percent from the 3-point line on 9-for-19. He also went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. He also had a pair of steals and an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.3, committing just three turnovers in 73 minutes.

Pangos, from Newmarket, Ontario, began the week with 19 points against two-time Final Four finalist Butler, going 7-for-11 from the field, 3-7 from 3-point range and 2-2 from the line. He scored 12 points in first half on 4-5 from the field and 2-3 from 3-point range as Gonzaga built 10-point halftime lead.

He came back with 23 points on 7-14 from the field, 6-12 from 3-point range and 3-3 from the line against Air Force. He scored 17 of Gonzaga's 28 first-half points against Air Force, going 5-8 from the field including 4-7 from 3-point range.

The Bulldogs, 9-2 overall, open WCC action Wednesday at home against the University of Portland, then have a Saturday non-conference game at Xavier University. Following a pair of losses last week Xavier fell out of both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Top 25 polls. Gonzaga and Xavier are receiving votes in both polls.
