CAMDEN, N.J. - The Gonzaga University men's rowing Varsity 4+ closed out the 2007 season finishing fourth in the nation at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. on Saturday. The Bulldogs are making a strong name for themselves nationally as this is the second-straight season the Zags have finished in the top five of the National Championships; having placed fourth in 2006.

It was a close race throughout as only five seconds divided the top four finishers. Gonzaga posted a time of 6:25.059; only a quarter second behind Brown University who placed third in a time of 6:24.742. The University of California won the Grand Final and the National Championship in a convincing time of 6:20.622. Coming in second was Temple University who closed out the course in a time of 6:24.370.

The Varsity 4+ was comprised of LeeAnne Templeman, Warren North, David Hinshaw, Brendan McCarthy and Matt Wernette.

The Gonzaga Varsity 4- finished the season with a third place finish in the Petite Final to rank ninth in the nation. The Bulldogs rowed in a time of 6:35.102 to capture third place. Grand Valley State University won the Petite Final with a strong time of 6:29.105, while Cornell University rounded out the top two with a finish of 6:34.048.

The Bulldog Varsity 4- included Pat Swihart, Greg Malman, Brian Franceschi and Scott McCoy.
