Rough Water Hampers Head Of The Snake
Oct. 28, 2006
PULLMAN, Wash. - Poor weather conditions shortened the Head of the Snake Regatta at Wawawai Landing on Saturday as Gonzaga University and Washington State University were able to send just five men's boats and five women's boats down the course. Originally scheduled to be two flights of racing over a 6,000-meter course, the crews were able to race for less than 2,000 meters. "It was pretty rough out there," Gonzaga director of rowing and head men's coach Dan Gehn said. "We definitely made the right decision." The WSU women defeated Gonzaga, the Cougars Varsity 8+ timed in 5:36.65 over the shortened course, followed by the WSU 2V8 in 5:47.54 and the Gonzaga 2V8 in 5:26.12. Gonzaga's Varsity 8+ was in Sacramento on Saturday competing in the Head of the American. The Gonzaga men defeated WSU for the second straight week. Gonzaga's Varsity 8+ was timed in 5:06.79 while the WSU V8 was second in 5:13.35. Gonzaga's men and women will be at the Head of the Lake at the Montlake Cut in Seattle on Nov. 12.
