PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's rowing team won its second-straight fall regatta by capturing the Head of the Snake hosted by Washington State University at Wawawai Landing in Pullman, Wash. The Bulldogs won all seven races against the Cougars, including the all important Varsity 8+.

The Zags claimed the marquee Varsity 8+ race in a time of 18:57.50 over the 5,300-meter course while the Cougars finished in 20:11.19. The begging races were rowed in a decent headwind, along with constant rain. The Head of the Snake, like most fall races, was run in flight with placing determined by time in each flight.

"I am really excited with the performance of our boats," said head coach Dan Gehn. "It was a good race, longer course than last week, and sloppier weather, but it was a fun course overall. Everybody did a good job. Today only helped us prepare for the Head of the Lake next week."

The Varsity 8+ consisted for Crystal Huff, Matt White, Greg Malman, Pat Swihart, Andrew Krug, Brendan McCarthy, Neil Coppinger, Connor Wege, and Julian Stephanski. The Gonzaga Second Varsity 8+ had the fastest time of the day.

The Zags finished the course with a time of 18:52.23, while the Washington State Second Varsity 8+ claimed a time of 19:49.00.

The Second Varsity 8+ was comprised of Rebecca Hussey, Will Griffith, Pat Moran, Alex Moore, Brian Franceschi, Ryan Roller, K.C. Anderson, Nick Willard and Mike Gore.

Gonzaga closes out its fall racing season when it travels to Seattle for the Head of the Lake. The Head of the Lake, hosted by the University of Washington, is set for Sunday, Nov. 9.
