SEATTLE, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's rowing closed of its fall season winning two of three races at the Head of the Lake Regatta, hosted by the University of Washington.

"It was a fantastic day for us," said Dan Gehn, director of rowing and head men's coach at Gonzaga. "I thought everybody rowed exceptionally well. It was probably our best finish ever at the Head of Lake."

The first victory of the day came in the Junior Varsity 8+ race where the Bulldogs pulled out a four second victory over the University of Victoria with a finish of 16:44.94. Victoria crossed the line at 16:48.80, followed by two Washington boats at 16:53.17 and 16:54.97, respectively.

The Junior Varsity 8+ lineup consisted of Crystal Huff, Neil Coppinger, Sean Ryan, Benji Schwarz, Brian Franceschi, KC Anderson, Will Griffith, Nick Willard, Pat Moran.

The Zags other first place finish was in the 3rd Varsity 8+. Gonzaga, whose boat was made up of novice rowers, clocked in a finish of 16:56.28; 37 seconds faster than its closest competitor. The University of British Columbia was second at 17:33.52 with Victoria rounding out the top three at 17:40.12.

The 3rd Varsity 8+ was comprised of Chris Light, Jeremy Lazzara, Scott Selfridge, Colt Kesselring, Connor Murphy, Tyler Mendiola, Jake Avella, Sam Freedgood, Eddie Lopez.

In the marquee Varsity 8+ matchup, Gonzaga place third, only 15 seconds behind first place finisher Washington. The Huskies won the race with a time of 15:57.37. British Columbia was second at 16:10.97, followed by the Bulldogs with a time of 16:12.80.

"The Varsity 8+ got tangled with a big buoy and had to stop for little bit but I thought they handled the adversity of it all pretty well," stated Gehn.

Varsity 8+ lineup was Sean Finerty, Matt White, Greg Malman, Pat Swihart, Andrew Krug, Brendan McCarthy, Mike Anderson, Connor Wege, Julian Stephanski.
