Men's Rowing Dominates NCRC Invitational
April 1, 2007 LAKE VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's rowing team continued its strong spring season by earning three first place finishes Saturday at the NCRC Invitational hosted by Lewis and Clark College in Lake Vancouver, Wash. In the Bulldogs first race of the day, Gonzaga earned a victory in the varsity eight race. The Zags completed the course in a time of 6:28.6, bettering the time of the University of Puget Sound by nearly two seconds (6:30.3). Humboldt State (6:46.4) placed third, while Lewis Clark (6:44.7) took fourth and Willamette (7:11.8) placed fifth. The Gonzaga novice eight boat also took home first place. The Bulldogs finished in a time of 6:38.1. Its closest competitor was Lewis Clark who finished nearly seven seconds after the Zags for a second place finish. The Bulldogs novice four boats placed first and second in the novice four race. The Gonzaga A boat finished in a time of 7:26.7 to win the race, while the Gonzaga B boat checked in at 7:32.2. In its final race, the Gonzaga varsity four boat placed second behind Puget Sound. UPS won the race in a time of 6:59.1, just edging out the Bulldogs who finished in 7:01.4 The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday when they participate in the George Washington Invitational. George Washington's varsity eight is currently ranked 20th in the latest USRowing Collegiate poll, while Georgetown, also a competitor next week, is ranked 16th. Gonzaga is not currently ranked, but have been receiving votes.
